With "The Man Who Came To Dinner" behind us, we're now working on TASTE ... a very short-run show (two nights only, and one of those nights is the private-party UPT Guild Show on June 21st). DAH adapted the short story for the first act. David Cory Anderson selected the songs for the second act. Nate Bell and Patrick Kinyon created the second act season preview show ... an extended skit weaving the hobbit Bilbo Baggins through the productions planned for the next UPT season, including those songs selected by David Cory Anderson. Zany fun! Here's the PR ...
TASTE at UPT on June 20th
An evening of delicious epicurean suspense with a preview next season at UPT.
The first act is a "word-for-word" presentation of the Roald Dahl short story "Taste." In a word-for-word performance, each word written in a non-theatrical piece is delivered by the actors. In this UPT version of "Taste" seven performers will present the story: Patrick Kinyon, KC Dill, Nathan Bell, Christine Hance, Erin Gragson, David Hance, and Holly Riggs. "Taste" is a wryly comic suspenseful tale of a gourmet dinner party, a wine tasting challenge, and an unusual wager. The distinctive word-for-word storytelling approach is dramatic and engaging, and sure to amuse and surprise the audience.
The second act is a whimsical preview presentation of the productions planned for UPT's 2008-2009 season: The Hobbit, Once Upon A Mattress, My Way (A Frank Sinatra musical revue), Prelude To A Kiss, The Mousetrap, and Little Shop Of Horrors. Songs from the three musical shows will be presented, interwoven with an comedic storyline describing and linking all six of the season's shows. The performers from the first act "Taste" will also present this taste of next season, along with MC, musical director and accompanist David Cory Anderson.
Both acts are fast-moving and fun, making for a lively evening of light entertainment. Tickets are $10.00 each, include complimentary wine or cider and snacks at intermission, and are available at the Mendocino Book Company in downtown Ukiah, and through the Ukiah Players box office at (707) 462-9226.
